ATHENS

After breakfast enjoy a city tour of Athens including the legendary Acropolis. See the chief jewel of the Acropolis – the Parthenon, the Temple of Wingless Victory, the Propylea and the Erechtheum with its peerless Porch of Maidens. Beneath the Acropolis is the Areopagus or Mars Hill. This is where St. Paul made his famous ‘MEN OF ATHENS’ speech revealing a considerable knowledge of the Greek philosophy and character. Driving through the city you will see the National Library, the Academy, the University, the Temple of Zeus and Adrian’s Arch. Continue with visit of the Ancient Agora which was the political, philosophical & commercial center of ancient Athens. Dinner and overnight: hotel in Athens.

DAY 4

ATHENS (CORINTH)

Drive along the coastal highway with a splendid view of the Aegean Sea. After crossing the Corinth Canal, which connects the Aegean and Ionian Seas, arrive in ancient Corinth. Visit the ancient ruins of the city where St. Paul worked with Aquila and Priscilla. Included are the first century shops, the Agora, Temple of Apollo and the Bema seat. Continue to Acrocorinth the Acropolis of Corinth, the limestone mountain (575 meters) is among the strongest natural fortresses in Europe. The citadel was the goal of all who aspired to the domination of the Peloponnese and it changed hands many times. The summit is enclosed by a wall and the only approach is defended by a triple line of fortification. Dinner and overnight: hotel in Athens.

DAY 5

ATHENS / KALAMBAKA

Morning departure to Kalambaka where we will visit the monasteries of Meteora to see one of the wonders of the Middle Ages: monasteries perched incredibly on sheet towers of sandstone rising like gigantic fingers out of the valley. Access to the summit once was possible only by rope ladders and baskets, but today a staircase permits an easier ascent up the rock-needles. After your most interesting tour you will return to Kalambaka and check in at your hotel for dinner and overnight.

DAY 6

KALAMBAKA / THESSALONIKI

This morning drive through the plains of Thessaly, legendary home of the Greek gods to Thessaloniki. En route we will visit Berea where the scriptures say ‘the people were more noble than in Thessaloniki.’  Arrive in Thessaloniki for dinner and overnight.

DAY 7

THESSALONIKI (Philippi)

Our full day excursion will take us overland along the ancient route of St. Paul through mountain passes and plains to Amphipolis for a short stop to view the ancient Lion statue. Continue to ancient Philippi where we find two early Christian basilicas, traces of the Egnatian Way, which Paul followed from the harbor of Neapolis (ancient port of Philippi) on his first visit on European soil. View the Roman Forum, the citadel, the ancient theater & Lydia’s brook. Continue on for a short drive to Kavala, the site of ancient Neapolis where Paul landed on the way to Philippi.
