A short drive takes us to Megiddo to see the site of 21 superimposed cites, dating back to before the days of Solomon. (1 Kings 9:15; Rev. 16:16). There we will see the Valley of Jezreel, also known as the Valley of Armageddon. On to Dalia El Carmel where we will visit a Druze house for Druze home hospitality. Visit an active olive press that belongs to the family. Our next stop is Mt. Carmel, where Elijah confronted the prophets of Baal (1 Kings 18). From here we’ll have the view of Israel’s breadbasket, the Jezreel Valley.  It has been a full day and time to head to the Sea of Galilee for our three-night stay at the fabulous Sea of Galilee hotel. Dinner and Overnight – Hotel in Tiberias.

DAY 4 – THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 9

TEL DAN / CAESAREA PHILIPPI / NIMROD FORTRESS / MT. BENTAL / MAGDALA

We start the day driving north to the Biblical city of Dan. Here, in 930 BCE, after Solomon’s death, we will sit on the site where King Jeroboam built an alternative “temple” for pagan sacrifices (I Kgs 12:29). Also, we will see a recent archaeological dig that uncovers a remarkable mud brick city gate entrance from the time of Abraham (Gen. 14: 14 – 2000 BCE), which is 4,000 years old! Nearby, we will stand on the exact spot at the ancient Dan city gate where the only extra-biblical discovery ever found to mention David as House of David was discovered in 1992! Close by is Caesarea Philippi, the corrupt center of Baal and Pan worship, built to honor Augustus Caesar by Philip (Herod’s son) in 14 CE. It was here that Jesus asked Peter and the disciples a profound question (Mt. 16:15). We will visit Nimrod Fortress as well, that was built as a defense fortress on the way to Damascus. After lunch, we continue our sightseeing with a dramatic stop at Mt. Bental, a former military outpost and site of a key battle and Israeli victory in the 1973 Yom Kippur War. This view offers a magnificent panorama of Mt. Hermon and Syria. It is now a mountaintop United Nations observation post on the Syrian border. Afterwards, we will drop by the recent discovery of biblical city – Magdala. Dinner and Overnight – Hotel in Tiberias.

DAY 5 – FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 10

SEA OF GALILEE / MOUNT OF BEATITUDES / CAPERNAUM / BETHSAIDA / KORAZIM / YARDENIT

We begin the day with a boat ride on the Sea of Galilee, viewing a spectacular and special  panorama that Jesus also observed. You can only imagine the stories and experiences that took place in biblical history. After docking, we will stroll through the Yigal Alon Museum which houses the amazing ancient fishing boat recently discovered and preserved from the time of Jesus. Visit the Mount of Beatitudes. Near this site, Jesus gave the Sermon on the Mount, taught on frequent occasions, and performed many miracles. We will spend some time on the mountainside to pray, sing and meditate on God’s Word.  Down the road are two special places Capernaum, Jesus’ home base where the majority of his recorded miracles were experienced. We will actually see the site that history confirms as Peter’s home. The other site, Bethsaida, the birth village of Peter, Andrew, and Phillip. The site has been excavated lately and a lot of new findings.  After lunch, we visit the Korazim and its excavations. We’ll see the Synagogue and the Seat of Moses. A stop on the shore of St. Peter’s Primacy where the event of John 21 took place probably here. We conclude our day with a memorable and important visit to Yardenit, a pastoral site on the Jordan River where many choose to be baptized. Dinner and overnight – Hotel in Tiberias.

DAY 6 – SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 11

BEIT SHE’AN / QASER EL YAHUD / QUMRAN / DEAD SEA CAVES

An early start for a climatic day begins at Beit She’an, a historic city and site of one phenomenal moment – the Philistines hung the bodies of King Saul and his three sons from the city walls after their defeat. (1 Samuel 31:10- 12) What we actually see are the spectacular ruins of a 1st century BCE Roman city renamed Scythopolis built adjacent to the original site. Departing Beit She’an. Visit Kibbutz Sde Eliyahu and see the amazing high-tech startup of the Kibbutz – Bio BeeA short stop at Qaser El Yahud the site where John the Baptist baptized Jesus.  We’ll end the day with a visit at Qumran, the site of perhaps the greatest archaeological find of all time! After lunch, we will drive to Masada, a desert fortress begun in 100 BCE and completed by Herod in 20 BCE. At this place, 960 Jews committed suicide rather than die at the hands of the Romans in 73 CE! We will ascend to the plateau by cable car and explore this engineering feat. Afterwards, we visit Ein Gedi. We Then we begin to    anticipate our climatic climb “up to” the key attraction of Israel – the majestic, celebrated city of Jerusalem with the Three Blessings of “She’he’che’yanu” on Mount Scopus. Flashlights and water shoes will be needed. We then have a spectacular moment at the Southern Steps of the Temple Mount. TEMPLE MOUNT / GOLDEN GATE / ST. ANNE’S CHURCH / POOL OF BETHESDA / CHURCH OF THE HOLY SEPULCHER

Since 638 AD, the Muslims have had control of the “Temple Mount” with a brief respite during the Crusades. The Dome of the Rock holds court visually, but it is the Al Aqsa Mosque that holds the prestige as the third holiest site within Islam. Both were constructed around 700 CE. After our time on the Mount.  We will exit through the St. Stephen Gate to see the Blocked Golden Gate from outside. Reenter the city and visit St. Anne’s Church and the Pool of Bethesda (John 5:1ff “…wish to be made well?”). From here we begin a famed walk down the Via Dolorosa, the Way of Sorrows. Visit the Lithostradus and drop below ground level to the street level from the time of Jesus. We continue to the Church of the Holy Sepulcher.
