Book Review: Devotional Treasures from the Holy Land

Many Christians embarking on a spiritual journey to the Holy Land may be asking themselves how best to prepare for such an incredible adventure. One of the best ways, is to hire a trustworthy and reputable tour agency that has years of experience creating and implementing such an excursion. Coral Travel & Tours has got you covered there. So, I thought I’d let you know about a wonderful book I found a few years ago by Pastor John Delancey titled, “Devotional Treasures from the Holy Land”. No this is not a paid promo for his book, but it is available on Amazon if you’re interested in purchasing. I’ll provide a link at the bottom of this page.

Having traveled to Israel many times, John Delancey draws on his personal experiences and a year’s study of the region’s historical geography and biblical archaeology at the Jerusalem University. Part travel guide, part devotional Delancey gives site by site insight into over 60 of the most important biblical and historical locations in the Holy Land. Along with geographical information, he also provides scriptural support and biblical application. Here are excerpts from his writings about the Bethesda pool:

“Right outside the northern edge of the Temple was a pool… in contrast to the joyous sounds streaming from the Temple, the primary noises from those gathered at this pool were solemn and sad. According to the Bible this is where the lame and subsequently ceremonially unclean spent their time… Welcome to a place where a miracle healed a certain man who was lame for 38 years.” Page 134

“God is a God who heals. He is a God who longs to bring joy and transformation to our lives. Recall a time when Christ brought you spiritual healing… Like the man at Bethesda, be sure to joyfully tell others about it!” Page 136

Every page you read in John Delancey’s “Devotional Treasures from the Holy Land” provides an opportunity for an encounter with God. As you prepare for your journey to the Holy Land, I encourage you to read the scriptures, pray daily and be ready to receive all that He has planned for your exciting spiritual adventure. Delancey’s book has been an eye opener for me and I know it can be for you as well. Best wishes for an inspiring biblical tour of Israel!
