2019 Chuck Smith Memorial Israel Tour

Flight from USA to Tel-Aviv.

Upon arrival at Ben Gurion airport a Coral Travel & Tours representative will be there to greet you. You will also meet your guide and drive to Jaffa. Jaffa (known in the Bible as Joppa) is considered the world’s oldest port city and the place where the prophet Jonah set sail for Tarshish (Jonah 1:1). Jaffa is also associated with St. Peter (Acts 10). After a short drive through Tel Aviv, check into your hotel. Dinner and overnight: Hotel in Tel Aviv/Herzliya.

After our Israeli breakfast, travel via the Sharon plain to Caesarea Maritime, the seat of the Roman Procurator of Judea at the time of the Christ, and the site where Peter converted the centurion Cornelius (Acts 10-24). Explore the Roman Theater, the Aqueduct and view the ruins of Roman, Byzantine and Crusader times. Continue to Mt. Carmel, to the site where Elijah challenged and defeated the 450 prophets of Baal (King 18:20). Stop for a falafel lunch. Drive to Megiddo, the Fortress City of King Solomon, later built again by King Ahab. The books of Daniel and Revelation will come alive as we study about the final Battle of Armageddon (Revelation 16: 14-19). Drive through Nazareth, the home of Joseph and Mary. Drive by the city of Cana of Galilee, where Jesus performed his first miracle (John 2: 1-11): turning jars of water into wine. Dinner and overnight: Hotel in Tiberias.

The day starts with a visit to the Mt. of Beatitudes, where Jesus delivered his Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5:1-12). Visit Capernaum, the town Jesus made his home after leaving Nazareth. Capernaum is the place where Jesus recruited the first of His disciples (Matthew 4:13, Luke 4:31-37, Matthew 8:14-17, Mark 2:1-12, Matthew 8:5-13, Mark 5:21-43, Matthew 11:23-24). Visit the excavation of the ancient synagogue and the house of St. Peter. Continue to Gadera (Mark 5:1-20). Take a wooden boat ride on the Sea of Galilee. For lunch you will have an  opportunity to sample St. Peter’s fish at a kibbutz on the shores of the Galilee. At kibbutz Nof Ginosar see the ancient boat from the first century in the Yigal Allon Museum. End the day at Yardenit, the baptismal site on the Jordan River, with the opportunity to be baptized (optional). Dinner and overnight: Hotel in Tiberias.

After breakfast drive to the Golan Heights past Mt. Hermon. Stop for a visit at Nimrod’s Castle. Enjoy a panoramic view of the Golan Heights from Mt. Bental. Continue to Banias, site of the ancient city, Caesarea Philippi. This is where St. Peter confessed Jesus as the Christ (Matthew 16:13-20). Stop for lunch. Continue on to Tel Dan, an      important biblical city and a breathtaking nature reserve. The Bible uses the phrase “from Dan to Beersheba” many times (Judges 20:1) to delineate the land of Israel. Your last stop today will be at the head waters of the Jordan River. Dinner and overnight: Hotel in Tiberias.

After breakfast leave the Sea of Galilee and visit Beit She’an where recent excavations have disclosed the impressive  ruins of the country’s largest city in the Roman and Byzantine periods which was destroyed by an earthquake in 749 AD. Drive to Ein Harod (Gideon’s Spring) at Mt. Gilboa, the site of Judge Gideon (Judges 7: 1-25). Lunch box. The tour continues through the Jordan Valley. Stop at Qasr El Yahud at the Jordan River, considered to be the place Joshua led the Hebrews into the Promised Land and the place John the Baptist baptized Jesus. Continue on to Jerusalem past Jericho, believed to be the world’s oldest walled city. This was the first city taken by Joshua when the Hebrews returned from Egypt (Joshua 6). It was also the site of the Mount of Temptation (Mark 1:12,13). Enter the city of Jerusalem in the traditional way and view the city from Mt. Scopus. Dinner and overnight: Hotel in Jerusalem..

This morning ascend the Mount of  Olives (Matthew 24:3, Luke 21:37) for a breathtaking panoramic view of the Old City of Jerusalem. Walk along the Palm Sunday Road to the Garden of Gethsemane (Matthew 26:36-46, Luke 22:39-45, Mark 14:32-42) where Jesus spent the last night before He was arrested. Drive along the “last way” to Mt. Zion. Cross the Kidron Valley and see the tombs of Absalom, Zachary and James. Enter the Old City and visit the Herodian Mansion, Jewish Quarter, Upper Room, Cardo, Temple Institute and Burnt House. End the day with a visit to the Western Wall and the Western Wall Tunnel. Dinner and overnight: Hotel in Jerusalem.

The day starts with a visit to the City of David including Jeremiah’s Cistern,   Hezekiah’s Tunnel and the Pool of Siloam. Drive to the western side of the city and visit Yad Vashem, the Holocaust Museum. Continue to the Israel Museum, the Shrine of the Book (where some of the Dead Sea Scrolls and Bar Kokhva letters are exhibited) and the Holy Land model which depicts the city of Jerusalem during the time of the Second Temple. Dinner and overnight: Hotel in Jerusalem.

Take an early morning drive to the Dead Sea. Ascend Masada by cable car. Explore the ancient excavation of Herod’s palaces, the bathhouse, the storerooms, the Roman ramp, the oldest synagogue in the world, and the museum. Drive along the shores of the Dead Sea to Ein Gedi, an oasis on the Dead Sea shore. Near the 200-meter-high waterfall is a cave where David had his famous meeting with King Saul (I Samuel 24: 1-23). A walk around the grounds confirms that Ein Gedi is one of the most beautiful nature reserves in the world. Continue to Qumran, where the 2000-year-old Dead Sea scrolls were found. In the afternoon, you will have an opportunity to swim in the “unsinkable” water of the Dead Sea. Return to Jerusalem. Dinner and overnight: Hotel in Jerusalem.

Day at Leisure (optional activities will be suggested). Dinner and overnight: Hotel in Jerusalem.

The day starts with a visit to Mt. Moriah (II Chronicles 3:1). Then visit the Southern Wall excavation (Davidson Center). Continue to St. Anne’s Church, which is a fine example of Crusader architecture, and the Pool of Bethesda (John 5:1,2). Walk through the Christian Quarter of the Old City, to see the Antonia Fortress, the Pavement of the Stones, and the Way of the Cross. Visit Calvary and end your tour sharing communion at the Garden Tomb. Farewell dinner. Late check out from hotel. Transfer to the  airport for your flight back home.

Overnight flight back to the USA. Arrive the same day. Return home with memories to last a lifetime.
