Worshiping on the Sea of Galilee

Worshiping on the Sea of Galilee

One of the best experiences you can have during a trip to Israel is worshiping on the Sea of Galilee. There is one company in Tiberias operated by a believer, the Sea of Galilee Worship Boats owned by Daniel Carmel, which offers boat rides for pilgrimage groups. Everyone I’ve talked to who’s been to Israel says it is one of several favorite stops on their itinerary.

The last time I was there was with a group of believers led by New York Times best-selling author Jonathan Cahn. It was a large group and they took us out in boats in the evening. When we got to the center of the lake, they tethered the boats together and Daniel Carmel led worship. Not only does he have an angelic voice, he has a huge heart for our Savior! It was incredible! Picture ten boat-loads of believers singing praises to Jesus on the most famous lake in Christendom! This is where Jesus walked on water and preached the good news to the multitudes who gathered along its shores. It was very powerful to proclaim the glory and greatness of our living God in song together. One that I will certainly never forget and pray you have an opportunity to experience!

Sea of Galilee – Interesting Facts

  • The Sea of Galilee is not a sea, it’s a freshwater lake.
  • The lake sits about 209 meters below sea level making it the second lowest lake in the world after the Dead Sea.
  • In 1986, due to severe drought conditions the water level of the lake dropped so low it exposed the remains of an ancient fishing boat which may have been in use during Jesus time. The boat is now on display at Kibbutz Ginosar.

    The ‘Jesus Boat’

  • It is the largest body of freshwater in Israel.
  • Surrounded by hills, it is part of the Great Rift Valley.
  • Jesus preached the good news throughout the Galilee region. This is where he delivered the Sermon on the Mount.
