2022 GREECE PASTORS' FAMILIARIZATION TOUR

APRIL 19 - 28, 2022

DAY 1: TUESDAY, APRIL 19, 2022
USA / ATHENS
Flight from USA to Athens.

DAY 2: WEDNESDAY, APRIL 20, 2022
ATHENS

We arrive in Athens and are met by our escort and immediately begin our sightseeing of Athens with a visit to the legendary Acropolis. We see the chief jewel of the Acropolis – the Parthenon, the Temple of Wingless Victory, the Propylea and the Erechteum with its peerless Porch of Maidens. Beneath the Acropolis is the Areopagus or Mars Hill. This is where Paul made his famous “Men of Athens” speech revealing a considerable knowledge of the Greek philosophy and character. Afterwards we check in to our hotel for dinner and overnight.

DAY 3: THURSDAY, APRIL 21, 2022
ATHENS / CORINTH
This morning, we drive along the coastal highway to Corinth, with a splendid view of the Aegean Sea. After a short stop at the Corinth Canal, which connects the Aegean and Ionian Seas, we arrive in Ancient Corinth. We visit the ruins here where the Apostle Paul worked with Aquila and Priscilla. Included are the first century shops, the Agora, Temple of Apollo and the Bema Seat. Returning to Athens this afternoon, we continue our tour of the city seeing the National Library, Academy, the University, Presidential Palace, Temple of Zeus, Hadrian’s Arch, House of Parliament and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Return to our hotel for dinner and overnight.

DAY 4: FRIDAY, APRIL 22, 2022
ATHENS / PIRAEUS / CRUISE
We transfer to the seaport of Piraeus where we board our cruise ship for our three-day cruise of the Greek Islands and Turkey. This afternoon we arrive at the Island of Mykonos, with its whitewashed houses and winding streets. We are free to explore this picturesque island, startling white against the multi-hued sunset. Dinner and overnight aboard our ship.

DAY 5: SATURDAY APRIL 23, 2022
KUSADASI / PATMOS
Early in the morning we will dock at the port of Kusadasi, where we will disembark in order to visit the ancient city of Ephesus. Some of the most spectacular ruins of the ancient world are to be found in Ephesus, the city where Paul spent two years during his ministry and wrote his famous epistle. Back to Kusadasi for free time in Grand bazaar, full with various shops and very close to the harbor. Lunch on board, while sailing to Patmos, an island full of beauty and history, where Saint John wrote the Book of Revelation (the Apocalypse). Optional excursion: Visit the Grotto of Revelation and St. John’s Monastery. Dinner on board and overnight, while sailing to Crete Island and then to Santorini.

DAY 6: SUNDAY APRIL 24, 2022
CRETE / SANTORINI
Crete is the largest and the most rugged of the Greek islands. It is also the home of the great Minoan Civilization and the mythological home of Zeus. After a short drive through the town of Heraklion the tour will arrive at the Knossos excavations. The findings of the ancient Minoan Kingdom will be viewed in detail, as your guide will lead you on a journey of discovery to learn of the sophisticated culture that flourished thousands of years ago on this island. *optional half day tour Lunch on board while sailing to Santorini. An ancient island that endured one of the largest volcanic eruptions in history, Santorini, feels like no other place on earth. Everything is brighter: the whitewashed cube-shaped houses, the lapis lazuli sea, and the sunsets that light up the caldera. Explore the picturesque Oia village walking along the cobble-stone streets and the white washed houses with blue shutters. Dinner on board and overnight, while sailing to Piraeus port for disembarkation.

DAY 7: MONDAY APRIL 25, 2022
PIRAEUS / LARISSA / KALAMBAKA / METEORA
Upon Arrival in Piraeus, we disembark and proceed by motor-coach through the towns of Lamia, Larissa on our way to Kalambaka. We continue to Meteora, whose pillar-like rocks provide an amazing site. Monasteries were built into the cliffs in the 14th century; we visit two of them. Dinner and overnight in Larissa followed by Mass at the hotel.

DAY 8: TUESDAY APRIL 26, 2022
BEREA / THESSALONIKI
This morning, we drive through the plains of Thessaly, the legendary home of the Greek Gods, and continue to Veria (Berea of the New Testament), where Paul visited on route to Athens and the Scriptures say the people were “more noble than in Thessaloniki.” Paul and Silas were taken here after the Thessaloniki pagans attacked them. We end in Thessaloniki with dinner and overnight.

DAY 9: WEDNESDAY APRIL 27, 2022
PHILIPPI
Our full day excursion takes us along the ancient route of St. Paul, through mountain passes and plains to Amphipolis for a short stop to view the ancient Lion statue. We continue to ancient Philippi, where Paul established the first church in Europe. We continue to Kavala on the site on ancient Neapolis, where Paul landed on the way to Philippi. Weather permitting; we celebrate an outdoor Mass at Philippi before returning to Thessaloniki in the late afternoon for dinner and overnight.

DAY 10: THURSDAY APRIL 28, 2022
THESSALONIKI / USA
This morning we transfer to the airport for our flight to the USA.
